"The One-Straw Revolution: An Intoduction to Natural Farming" by Masanobu Fukuoka, Translated by Larry Korn, and Narrated by David Shih on Audible
I
have just finished listening to an audiobook entitled "The One-Straw Revolution: An Introduction to Natural Farming" by Masanobu Fukuoka, translated by Larry Korn, and narrated by David Shih on
Audible.
At the heart of The One-Straw Revolution is Masanobu Fukuoka’s radical concept of "do-nothing" farming, which fundamentally challenges the assumptions of modern agriculture. Rather than viewing nature as a wild force to be conquered, categorized, or chemically managed, Fukuoka asserts that the natural world is already perfectly balanced and complete. His method involves deliberately removing human interference—eliminating plowing, synthetic fertilizers, forced weeding, and pesticides—and instead carefully observing and cooperating with the local ecosystem. By relying on natural processes, such as using uncut straw mulch, maintaining living ground cover like white clover, and trusting the biological interplay of insects and microorganisms, Fukuoka demonstrates that the earth can provide abundant harvests effortlessly when humanity stops fighting against it.
Philosophically, the book presents a profound critique of the human intellect and the scientific method. Fukuoka argues that the specialized, reductionist approach of modern science fundamentally fragments reality, blinding humanity to the holistic, interconnected nature of the universe. By dissecting the world into narrow fields of study and arbitrarily labeling things as "good" or "bad" (such as crops versus weeds, or beneficial insects versus pests), humans create endless, exhausting battles to fix secondary problems of their own making. He advocates for abandoning this arrogant, academic "smartness" in favor of a humble, empty, and "childlike" mind. True wisdom, he suggests, lies in recognizing the severe limits of human knowledge and letting go of the ego-driven desire to improve upon a natural order that is already flawless.
Ultimately, Fukuoka’s revolution extends far beyond agricultural technique to encompass diet, culture, and spiritual liberation. He posits that a modern society disconnected from its local land and seasonal food sources inevitably becomes physically sick, culturally impoverished, and structurally driven toward exploitation and war. Returning to a simple, natural diet—eating what grows locally and seasonally with minimal processing—is essential for realigning the human body and spirit with the rhythms of the earth. The ultimate goal of natural farming is therefore not merely the cultivation of crops, but the "cultivation and perfection of human beings," fostering a peaceful, contented existence where individuals live in joyful, unpretentious harmony with the world around them.
I want to share to you the insights and key takeaways from the audiobook. So, here they are, happy learning and enjoying!

"A Little History of Economics" Audiobook by Niall Kishtainy, Narrated by Steven Crossley on Audible
As a Junior Agricultural Economist, learning the history of Economics is a must. I have just finished listening to an audiobook entitled "A Little History of Economics" by Niall Kishtainy, narrated by Steven Crossley on Audible.
I gained valuable insights into how economic concepts and theories evolved from the Ancient Greeks through Adam Smith's era, including the development of Keynesian Economics and its critics. I want to share to you the insights and key takeaways from the audiobook, like about "The Invisible Hand" Concept from Adam Smith, or about "The Game Theory" and "The Prisoner's Dilemma".
As Kishtainy beautifully and inspiringly summarizes the essence of the entire journey: "In economics, there isn’t one ‘right’ answer that stays right forever... By appreciating the different responses of history’s thinkers we can be inspired to come up with our own." The grand, fascinating story of economics is not finished; it is a continuous, vital conversation about how we choose to build our world.
So, here they are, happy learning and enjoying!

Culinary Medicine: Prescribing the Kitchen for Better Health and Sustainable Consumption
In recent years, the intersection of healthcare, nutrition, and environmentalism has given rise to a transformative field known as "culinary medicine." At the forefront of this movement are researchers and physicians at Harvard University, who are actively bridging the gap between the doctor’s clinic and the kitchen. Through innovative programs, they are proving that equipping patients with a spatula can be just as important for human and planetary health as handing them a prescription.

The "Fundamentals of Financial Statement Analysis" Online Course on Malakah Indonesia
I have finished an online course on Malakah Indonesia about the "Fundamentals of Financial Statement Analysis", which consists of Balance Sheet (Laporan Neraca), Income Statement (Laporan Laba Rugi), Statement of Cash Flows (Laporan Arus Kas), and Statement of Stockholders' Equity (Laporan Perubahan Modal). From the four statements and reports, I learned about the importance of financial ratios, which play a role in interpreting and understanding the meaning of the numbers in the reports and statements. The financial ratios consist of four measurements, which are about profitability, liquidity, leverage, and valuation. As a Junior Agricultural Economist, they helped me to understand the healthiness of a company or corporation, including agricultural business entities. As an Entrepreneur and Investor, they helped me to choose the right companies where should I invest on them, also they helped me to build good financial statements of Dzikra Yuhasyra's eCommerce Dzikra Yuhasyra's eCommerce that will be needed in the future when it grows bigger. "Understanding Indonesia’s High Rice Prices: Structural Costs, Protection, and the Political Economy of Persistence" Working Paper by LPEM FEB UI
Author: Mohamad Ikhsan
Executive Summary
Rice remains the most politically and economically significant staple in Indonesia, yet domestic rice prices have persistently exceeded international and regional benchmarks. This paper examines the structural and institutional causes of Indonesia’s high rice prices by combining recent empirical evidence (Ikhsan, 2025) with earlier conceptual insights (Briones, 2012; Timmer, 1996). The analysis highlights three interrelated drivers: (i) production costs that are substantially higher than those of regional competitors due to labor intensity, land rent burdens, and fragmented holdings; (ii) post-harvest and marketing inefficiencies that add hidden costs despite relatively modest trader margins; and (iii) trade and price stabilization policies that prioritize self-sufficiency and producer protection at the expense of consumer welfare. The political economy of rice further explains why reform has been difficult: high rice prices serve as a political signal of state support for farmers, even though most of the poor are net rice consumers. The paper argues for a comprehensive reform agenda—what Ikhsan (2025) terms a “Green Revolution 2.0”—centered on technological innovation, mechanization, land reform, and post-harvest modernization, complemented by targeted social protection and calibrated trade liberalization. Without such reforms, Indonesia risks remaining locked in a high-price, low-productivity trap that undermines poverty reduction and structural transformation.

"The Experience Economy, Updated Edition" Audiobook by B. Joseph Pine II and James H. Gilmore, Narrated by Alan Sklar on Audible
The most captivating revelation in "The Experience Economy" is the assertion that goods and services have become commoditized, necessitating a shift where businesses must stage memorable events to create distinct economic value. The authors provocatively argue that "work is theatre," urging every employee to act with intention and every business to script its operations as a performance that engages the guest's emotions. Furthermore, they introduce the concept of "customer sacrifice," defining it as the gap between what a customer accepts and what they truly desire, which can only be bridged through deep mass customization. Ultimately, the book concludes that the economy's final frontier is the "Transformation Economy," where the customer becomes the product and businesses charge for the life-changing outcomes they help achieve
I would like to share with you about the insights and key takeaways from this book. So, here they are, happy learning and enjoying!

"Change Your Mindset, Change Your Life: Four Simple Steps, One Extraordinary Life" Audiobook by Taylor Grant and Dr. James Grant on Audible
Several days ago, I finished listening to an audiobook entitled "Change Your Mindset, Change Your Life: Four Simple Steps, One Extraordinary Life" Audiobook by Taylor Grant and Dr. James Grant on Audible.
"Change Your Mindset, Change Your Life" serves as a practical manual for internal renovation, positing that the architecture of one's external reality is completely dependent on the quality of their internal thought processes. The book opens with the "Introduction", which establishes the core thesis: most individuals live life in reverse, attempting to alter their circumstances to change their feelings, rather than altering their feelings to change their circumstances. Taylor Grant and Dr. James Grant introduce the "Four Simple Steps" as a linear framework designed to dismantle the "Default Mode" of thinking—the subconscious programming inherited from childhood and societal conditioning—and replace it with a "Design Mode" of intentional living.

Thank you so much to Tony for your dedication and love! Here are the notes of Days 1 -3 and the Bonus Day, happy learning and enjoying!

"Pick-Your-Own Farming: Free Yourself from Farmers Markets and Join the Agritourism Revolution!" Audiobook by Megan Neubauer on Audible
I have just finished listening to a helpful audiobook entitled "Pick-Your-Own Farming: Free Yourself from Farmers Markets and Join the Agritourism Revolution!" by Megan Neubauer on Audible. I would call it helpful because the writer shared her experiences in building, running, and operating her pick-your-own farm, called "Pure Land Farm."
From her explanation, we could learn to implement the same principles of pick-your-own farm here in Indonesia, and of course anywhere in the world, with the adjustment to the local value and condition, besides the conventional market destination, such as traditional market, farmers market, Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), and wholesale market.

"Data-Driven Growing in Practice: How AI Helps Shaping Protected Horticulture" Webinar Organized by Pusat Studi Sistem Pengelolaan Sumber Daya Lahan, Faculty of Agriculture, Padjadjaran University
On January 8, 2026, I attended a webinar entitled "Data-Driven Growing in Practice: How AI Helps Shaping Protected Horticulture" organized by the Pusat Studi Sistem Pengelolaan Sumber Daya Lahan, Faculty of Agriculture, Padjadjaran University. The speakers were Mr. Teddy Prayoga from LetsGrow.com and Prof. Reginawanti Hindersah, who served as the moderator.
This webinar enlightened me that data-driven growing, especially in protected horticulture within greenhouses, has already been developing at a rapid pace. We could learn from the implementation in the Netherlands, where Mr Teddy said that because it has a small geographical area compared to Indonesia, and the actors or companies have an openness to share knowledge and data with each other, the development of the greenhouse and data-driven growing has reached an advanced level.

"Think Like An Ecosystem - An Introduction to Permaculture, Water Systems, Soil Science and Landscape Design" Audiobook by Amélie Des Plantes, Narrated by Brian Pederson on Audible
I just finished listening to an audiobook entitled "Think Like An Ecosystem -
An Introduction to Permaculture, Water Systems, Soil Science and
Landscape Design" by Amélie Des Plantes, narrated by Brian Pederson on Audible.
One problem and question that I tried to find and dig more in my journey as a Junior Agricultural Economist was about "what is the best and most sustainable food system for our current conditions in this modern life?", and Permaculture is one of the answers, both practically and philosophically. Permaculture is described
as "nothing new"; it is a return to nature's way of taking care of
itself. After humans disrupted natural balances, permaculture offers a
philosophy to repair the harm and restore equilibrium.

"The Science of Scaling: Grow Your Business Bigger and Faster Than You Think Possible" by Dr. Benjamin Hardy and Blake Erickson, Narrated by Benjamin Hardy on Audible
As
someone who is building a small business, or perhaps I could call it a small project, Dzikra Yuhasyra's eCommerce, do scaling the business is a future direction of my intention. To dig more about it, I
just finished listening to an audiobook entitled "The Science of
Scaling: Grow Your Business Bigger and Faster Than You Think Possible"
by Dr. Benjamin Hardy and Blake Erickson, narrated by Benjamin Hardy on
Audible.
The authors define the three elements of The Scaling Framework:
"Frame",
"Floor", and "Focus". Your "Frame" is what you see based on your goals;
your "Floor" is what you filter out (defining what you don't do); and
your "Focus" is the specific path and partners you choose to realize the
goal. This structure addresses the common problem where businesses are
diluted, overly complex, and lack clarity. The importance of "Impossible
Goal and Time" also "Simplifying Our Focused System" are the main
lessons learned from this book.
